Mass media has shaped me in a variety of ways. As a child of the 21st century I have spent my entire life surrounded by mass media constructs, the most notable of which are undoubtedly television and the internet. Due to the proliferation of these sources in my day to day life I can say that my meanderings through the myriad channels each possess have without a doubt affected my political leanings, my thoughts on many social issues, the way I speak, the way I approach other people, and more generally speaking the interests that I now possess today. I don't have very many specific questions to ask in this course, mostly I just want to get a better understanding of Mass Media and the effects it has on today's popular culture. I would like to learn how to correctly define it and I would like to be able to know more about the jobs that are involved with mass media. Other than that I have no less general questions at this time.

Mass Media has certainly shaped how I process the world around me. For example, as I have gotten older I can see that all news is inherently biased. In order to not blindly absorb information given to us by various news outlets we must recognize inherent biases and adamantly seek out different sources from which we obtain our news. I feel that media, particularly news has made me not only very curious about the world around me, but also by how such news is depicted. Mass media in general has caught my interest and led me to question various things. How has propaganda influenced societies throughout history? Is it possible to ever not be influenced? Why are we so drawn to it, and what consequences or danger could result? For example, fashion advertising has led many girls to have a sickly obsession with their bodies. Could media prevent such negativity?

Nowadays the world pretty much revolves around any form of media. 10 years ago, media was no where near where it is today. I believe that my generation grew alongside the advances of media and technology. We grew up with all these new inventions coming about so we know pretty much all there is to know about technology. Media has shaped me into someone who knows how to communicate better in person. Some people may say that media has a negative effect on communication in person, but I believe it is all in how you use it. Media has helped me discover what I really want to do with my life because I am able to explore more than I would have been able to if I grew up in the generation before me. I am really interested in broadcasting and advertising within the mass comm major. However, I also really love animals and have always wanted to do something with animals. I want to try and incorporate these two things together somehow.

The mass media has influenced many of my opinions and decisions I make in my life. I spend way too much time on websites that are heavily promoted by the media such as Facebook and Pinterest, and consequently what I read on those websites affects my decisions including what type of clothes I wear, music to listen to, and what activities I should spend my time doing. Also news broadcasts affect my views on the events that occur not only in the United States but also in countries around the world. I hope to learn more about many aspects of the mass media in this course. I’m interested in knowing how certain websites, news broadcasts, or advertisements attract a certain audience. I’m also curious in learning how to be the sender of media messages in order to appeal to whom I want my messages to be read and understood by.

Like putty in a toddler's hands, we are molded and shaped by mass media. Each day we are exposed to out side forces driving and influencing our actions. This is clear when you look down at your new Mac computer or your polo shirt. For me, mass media has shaped me as a consumer. We see dozens of advertisements either online or on tv a day and the specific goal of these ads is for you to invest in a companies product. Even when I was a kid, I would want the newest and coolest thing I saw in stores or on tv. This was the media's way of shaping me. Mass media has contributed to my style and my general taste in everything from clothing, movies, music, art, and books. In fact, most of the movies I have seen or the books I have read all are a result of hearing or seeing about them from some source of media. From an early age to our adult lives, mass media is all around us. Secretly telling us what to wear, where to go, and what to do. Its hand guides our actions and behavior which sounds bad from the outside looking in, but without mass media, where would we be today.

Mass media has not only shaped me in many ways but our society as well. Growing up as a kid I never really thought too much about my weight or how I looked but as soon as I got old enough to realize what things were being said in the media it took a huge effect on me and how I perceived different things. I was more conscious of the things that I wore and realized how different people wore their clothing. I even noticed how different people acted and what was “right” and what wasn’t in our society. Media takes a huge toll in our everyday lives whether we realize it or not, especially our generation. This generation has grown up around mass media and it keeps becoming a bigger. Whether we like it or not, everything we do is somehow tied with mass media. We base many of our decisions on the media around us to be considered socially acceptable as well. Some of the questions I have that I hope to explore in this course are how mass media attracts so many people and how it keeps the audience wanting more.

Mass Media has been the primary outlet of information for my generation. Most young individuals own a smart phone, where a multitude of information, ranging from breaking news to the full biography of the next bachelor, can be accessed by the simple click of a button. Growing up in this generation of information overload has taught me not to trust everything I come by. It has allowed me to develop critical thinking skills to research and explore what I want to know instead of relying on seven different news stations to tell me “Who Kim Kardashian’s REAL baby-daddy is.” However, with such instant access to a plethora of different movies, music, and novels each individual is encouraged to find their identity by exploring these different genres. If you put a “nerd” and a “jock” in a classroom together, odds are they do not have the same favorite band. Mass media allows individuals of the upcoming generation to connect to each other like never before through their similar preferences of mass media outlets. In this course, I hope to learn how the producers of these mass media industries target particular audiences and are successful in capturing the attention of these individuals.

Besides the obvious effects of the media that everyone is surrounded with daily, mass communication has influenced my life greatly and helped shape me, leading me to choosing this major now. My first personal encounter with mass media was working on my high school yearbook as a sophomore. Not only did I love the type of creative, forward-thinking people that I got to work with, but also I increasingly enjoyed the work I was doing. Contributing to a publication enjoyed by the masses gave me a broader perspective of what people want to see and how they want to see it. This also gave me an opportunity to learn how much can go into what other people see as simple and to appreciate mass communication more. I loved this experience so much that I ended up as the editor of the book my senior year, and now as a pre-mass communication major at GCSU. One question I want answered in this class is how the media has affected major parts of society, such as the government.

Mass Media has had a great impact on my life. I am a dancer, so music alone has great importance. Being able to find songs and have others besides yourself know them and relate to the song can make or break a dance. Also, with the invention of social networking, it has been easier to communicate with my family members and friends who do not live close enough to see all the time. I also take pictures, so for photography purposes, sharing my pictures online has allowed me to gain more interested followers and clients. Overall, the mass media, I think, has an impact on nearly everyone's lives.

Mass media has made the world a lot smaller than it used to be. Now I can just turn on the TV and hear about something that is going on across the other side of the world. News stations, specifically CNN, have informed us of events across the world such as Osama bin Laden’s death or the execution of Saddam Hussein in a matter of seconds. Mass media interests me because of the fact that it may be the only way people ever see the rest of the world and what is going on around them. Mass media also shows people what the new “in” thing is. For example, in magazines they show several ads of models and ideal items to use. Those ads try to create the ideal image, and everyone, including myself, would like to be a duplicate of that ideal image.

Alicia Avitabile: As much as I like to believe the contrary, mass media does shape me tremendously. Television, books, magazines, Facebook, Skype, I do not know what I would be able to do without communication. It has caused me to feel that this type of communication is necessary every day of my life, and it has influenced my opinions of certain things around the world. It goes without being said that it also has expanded my depth of information. Some questions I have are how is society going to be able to keep up with the constant change in mass media, and how the changes will shape our everyday lives? I also wonder if the increasing amount of overall information will affect our health and life expectancy in the future. Now that we rely so much on mass media, I wonder if there could be a period of time where we will not have to depend on it, especially for the younger generations, and how they will cope with the information overload if it does not. I’d also like to learn and explore the different opportunities regarding a career in public relations.

Mass media has a very substantial impact on every member of society. The media, through television, radio, the internet, etc., exposes us to a vast variety of new products, TV shows, movies, music, trends, as well as new ideas or ways of thinking. We have the chance to share our opinions in many cases and provide feedback on what is presented to us, and we are then able to tailor a portion of what else is offered to us to fit our own personal interests. One question I have about mass communication is if it has been/can be determined if there is one form of media that has generally the greatest impact on society as a whole, or might one particular medium have a greater influence on a particular demographic? For instance, might TV have a stronger influence on females and radio on males, or might younger people be more receptive to the internet and older people to newspaper?

Mass Media has shaped my generation and who I am very greatly. My whole life has been centered around technology and media as a form of mass communication. Without even realizing, I rely on media for much of my information. I am checking twitter constantly, always wanting the new updates. I think that is what my generation thirsts for. New gossip and news at that very second. Some say relying on so much technology and media has been detrimental to society but I woud have to disagree. Sure I might be on my phone too much but I could not imagine my life without such media. It helps broadcast important news in a quick way so everyone can become aware.

Mass Media has a impact on my everyday life. I am constantly being bombarded by emails that want me to join another social media, or an advertisement for some store that I mistakenly gave my email address to. Having a smart phone has made it easier for me to check my email more frequently and read these messages the second I receive it. My day consist of me participating in mass media as well. When I wake up I turn on the TV to watch LIVE with Kelly, listen to the radio as I get ready for the day.TV and music wake me up and optimistic about the day. Between classes I will log onto social medias such as Facebook and Twitter, and see what my friends are doing. I would like to learn more about how mass media became so much apart of the American experience, and why we have such an obsession to it. Looking at the the statistics of how people react to mass media seems absurd, yet I know that I take part in the study.

Stevie Jacobson. Though I would like to think I spend more time playing outside and reading rather than on the computer and phone, the reality is that I don’t. Sadly it is not just me, and due to this I am affected by mass media every day. Wether it be the hard hitting or celebrity news, I am bombarded with stories I want to know about, and ones that I don’t. Mass media has shaped me in the way that I get my information, learn, play and communicate with others. It has greatly shaped my generation and those to come. Letters, magazines and newspapers are already growing sparse, and in the next few years they will be gone. I wonder about mass media not only in America, but in other countries; are they just as affected as we are? I also think about the future, how much of an impact will it have in the next ten years when it has already grown so big?

Mass media has shaped me in so many different ways. It has a way of controlling the view that we have of the world, and the people and things in it such as celebrities and others things that the media focuses on. With all of the different forms of it; such as television, newspapers, radio, and magazines; it is almost impossible to escape from the effects that it can have on us. We cannot go anywhere without seeing the latest gossip on the hottest celebs from magazines, hearing about the latest news from the television, or listening to the new, hip music from the radio. Without these things, how would we ever grow? The world is constantly changing, and the media does a fantastic job of keeping everyone fully aware of these changes! One thing specifically that I benefit from is fashion magazines. One of my favorite things to do is read up on the latest fashion trends!

Mass media has influenced me by keeping me connected with the world. Today, technology keeps us connected 24/7. We can know what is going on across the world in a matter of seconds. We can keep up with our loved ones through social media. Most of my friends go to different colleges and are in different cities. Thanks to social media I can still keep up with their lives and talk to them whenever I want. Social media also keeps us up to date with changing trends and outlooks. We are surrounded by social media whether it is TV, magazines, books, music, movies, etc. Whether we know it or not social media is shaping our lives. Although it is important to know what’s going on in the world, I feel that being so connected has created an information overload. We have access to almost everything we could ever want or need to know.

In today’s society many people depend on mass media for nearly everything. I know I am not any different than everyone else. I use it to keep in touch with family members that live out of town, as well as friends from back home. It is a good way to keep with up with what is going on in other people’s lives. The older generations use it to keep up with news, weather, and what is going on in other parts of the world. If something happens in China, we will certainly be able to find about it in a matter of thirty minutes. The intercontinental communication has changed rapidly in the last one hundred years allowing everyone to be in contact within minutes. With the mass media industry evolving so quickly, I’m curious as to what it will be like in ten, twenty or even fifty years. There is no telling what an iPhone will be able to do in twenty years. Practically everything I can imagine. I want to learn ways to present news and information in an unbiased way were people can make their own decisions by seeing both the good and the bad side of a situation.

Since we are exposed to all types of media every day, the thoughts and opinions of others are constantly in our heads. Some people get lost in the contradictory views exposed in the media; therefore, it is difficult to form an opinion on their own, but the media makes it easy for me to draw a conclusion on what I believe about the issues in society. I hope we explore why advertising is so effective on us. I’m interested to see why it is so easy for us to influenced by a commercial or an ad on the internet. I know for sure that I want to apply to the Mass Communication major, but I am still unsure of exactly what career I want to pursue. I hope we explore realistic ways to use our degree, and what types of jobs are in the Mass Communication field.

Mass media and society are directly linked. It has been the primary access to news and current events in our society today. The media, whether we realize it or not, affects us in everything that we do. Most people are attached to their technology devices whether it is their cellphone, iPad or MacBook Pros. These devices are a gateway to a mass of information and breaking news. Although mass media has grown in such positive ways in today’s society, such as updating the world as fast and as efficiently as possible, it has also created an information overload for our generation. Our society now must cleverly sift through and analyze all of the sugarcoated insignificant information that is known for hindering the truth in today’s current events. Many credible networks and newspapers are now loosing their appeal due to other social networks such as twitter, where many in my generation are receiving most of their updates on breaking news. I myself am guilty for doing this as well. Like many, I’m gullible and quick to believe the first tweet I see involving currents events such as updates in news and reality TV. In this course, I hope to develop ways to decipher and distinguish the differences between the “fluff” provided by unreliable networks and the truthful information provided by credible ones.

Mass media has shaped me in many ways. Watching TV and seeing commercials sometimes defines who I am and can also influence what I purchase as a consumer. Music and TV are a large part of what entertains me, because I keep up with so many TV shows. Mass media has changed over time and with that change, I think that it has affected me more and more, especially through my iPhone and twitter. Social media has become instant and I am used to having everything with me. In this class, I hope to study the basics of mass communication. I also hope to learn about social networking and how it has affected us as a society. I hope to learn about the different branches of mass communication and what each field does. I interested in learning more about how technological advancements have caused a change in the mass communication field as well.

The mass media is an extension of who I, along with most of my generation, am. The society I live in is driven by and revolves around it so in my opinion, there is no way for one to shut themselves off from it and its effects. It is embedded in who we are. It has shaped my goals and dreams because I subconsciously draw ideas of the life I want from television. It shapes my taste in clothes and just about everything else because it is constantly telling me what looks good. It also circulates information faster than could ever be done by human contact alone, which is good because being informed can be very helpful and make life easier, but can be bad because it fuels our growing need for receiving large amounts of information constantly and quickly. I feel like mass media is primarily responsible for the fast pace of my mind and of my life in general.

Mass Media has had a large influence on myself and my family. Coming from a very bipartisan household with varying degrees of views and opinions, I was, and still am today, exposed to a wide range of media, usually in the forms of television, radio, the Internet, newspapers and magazines. I feel blessed to have grown up in an environment where your knowledge and opinions can be expressed and understood by others, even those that don't always agree with you. I see Mass Media as a way to inform, persuade, entertain, argue, express, and support multitudes of ideas. However, there is never a moment when bias does not affect how an idea is presented and interpreted. Is it possible to be able to avoid bias altogether? Probably not. Everyone sees things differently, therefor interprets differently. But could we all agree on evidential facts? Isn't that what journalism and reporting is all about? Bringing facts to the people? In a skewed sense, I guess I see Mass Media as a servant to its people and society. Yeah, that all sounded pretty cool right?

As apart of our human nature, communication with one another is key. Whether it be through Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, every person has their way of obtaining information. Society these days has the ability to get gossip/news at the press of a button - something that wasn't so simply done ten years ago. The print business is certainly on its way out because it requires effort. With that being said, media and society are greatly intertwined, as society wouldn't be properly informed about news without the media. I personally am affected by society being shaped by media as I am a huge user of Twitter and Instagram - both of which I get the bulk of my news from. I look forward to learning more about how both media and society stem from one another!

To be honest, I would not be the extremely funny, attractive, and insightful man I am today without mass communication. Most of my randomness comes from all the different media I take in on a regular basis. If it weren't for the YouTube celebrity "Tobuscus", I may not have come out of my shell, and I certainly wouldn't have been able to host a radio show every Thursday night (shameless plug). One thing I think I would enjoy learning about is how the field is changing over the next few years. With new technology, it really is interesting to see what companies will do about it. Podcasting is the new radio, and YouTube is basically the new TV. It will be interesting to see how companies hire with this in mind over the next few years, and perhaps Internet will be the only (or at least one of the few) source of information and media available.

Mass Media has definitely shaped me and everyone in society in dramatic ways. Think about any conversation you've had with someone in the past day. A huge amount of the topics of conversations that people have are about that new movie, their favorite type of music, or something they heard on the news. Especially in more recent years with the proliferation of the internet and social networks, the effects of media are reaching everyone at all times. I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with as many people as I do if it wasn't for modern social networks such as facebook, and various advertisements and promotions that also appear alongside my newsfeed are being seen by millions upon millions of other people on their newsfeeds. I don't have any specific questions about mass communication, but I would like to know more about the specifics on how media is created and spread to a large audience.

Mass media has shaped me in large ways since I was very young. Shows like 'The Amanda Show', 'Lizzie McGuire', etc provided me with role models. I wanted to be the funny, quirky, naturally pretty girl that is actually really emotional yet mature on the inside. This, of course, is hard to obtain through the horribly awkward years of middle school so I felt a step behind. As I've become older, I've noticed meda's impact in the form of unachievable goals. People going to extravagant places, meeting incredible people, etc that is so fluffed up by media, but it can easily make your own life seem very small and insignificant. I am looking forward to learning about the basic aspects of media so I can be better informed when I am encountered with it. I also want to understand the mechanics of it so I can use my perspective to effect people, movements, organizations etc.

The Mass Media world has shaped my life in many different ways. Especially being in the Millenal generation as opposed to the baby boomer generation. In our every days lives we are influenced by what we see everywhere and even company has a way of catching our attention in the media world. In the technology world we are lucky enough to have gotten to the level of technology today. I would like to learn more about how the media world effects every one as a whole and the career world.
